Maruful Islam is Lecturer in Accounting and Assistant Proctor at the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC).
Marufs research mainly focuses on the interrelationships between accounting, organisations, and society; and the rise of accounting information systems and its various impacts on users and preparers of accounting information. He is currently researching the influence of shared culture; history; geopolitics; colonial and legal roots; and liberation freedom from British empire on IFRS adoption in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan as well the role of international organisations, such as IMF, in exporting Anglo-American standard-setting practices to developing countries.
Maruf received his MSc in Accounting, Organisations and Institutions with substantial focus on Corporate and Commercial Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2018. He completed his BBA (Hons) Professional Accountancy from City University of Hong Kong in 2016, where he studied as a CityU and Hong Kong Government Scholar. Prior to joining IIUC, he managed various organisations in the UK, Hong Kong and Bangladesh, and worked as a researcher for the Jatiyo Party, currently the main opposition in Bangladesh Parliament.
